An Australian mayor wants to sue OpenAI over ChatGPT.

The Mayor of Hepburn Shire Council, Brian Hood, says the OpenAI-owned tool falsely claimed he was imprisoned for bribery while working for a subsidiary of Australia’s national bank.

This is not correct, as Mr Hood was actually a whistleblower who was never charged with a crime.

His lawyers have commenced a defamation legal process by sending a concerns notice to OpenAI.

OpenAI has 28 days to respond to the concerns notice. If the matter isn’t resolved in this time, this would be the first time OpenAI has publicly faced a defamation suit over the content created by ChatGPT.
