This is the second time Google has shut down its product named Currents. Currents, the work focused Google Plus replacement is being wound down acorrding to reports. It will itself be replaced by Google Spaces, which is Google Chat’s version of a Slack or Discord channel.
Google’s position is that Spaces will deliver new capabilities such as support for larger communities and leadership communication and investments in advanced search.
Currents hasn’t gotten a lot of publicity over the years, which suggests it didn’t get a lot of use.
But it is being replaced by Chats, which is possibly one the best new projects.
