Elon Musk has responded to the Chatgpt work at openai by improving the Grok language model that is included with x.com and making it free for a month or so until his “servers get melted”.
The model has been well received, and the mainstream media has been supportive of GROK. For example, there is an interesting article on CNN about Grok 3 which notes the ongoing scaling war in the AI LLM space.
In terms of assessing the impact of GROK it is worthwhile to look at what Chatgpt says about it:
“While Grok 3 aims to provide insightful responses, its knowledge base lacks depth in many areas. Compared to leading AI models, it struggles with niche topics, specialized expertise, and real-time event comprehension. This limitation reduces its reliability for users who require precise or cutting-edge information. Despite improvements in language understanding, Grok 3 does not match the reasoning capabilities of some competitors. It struggles with multi-step logic, legal analysis, and nuanced ethical discussions. This shortfall is particularly evident in domains requiring deep critical thinking, such as law, philosophy, or advanced scientific discussions.”
Pretty brutal words there Chatgpt!
